Folks who might not normally venture into the River Valley are getting the opportunity thanks to the Williams Lake Sportsmen's Association.

On Tuesday and Friday of this week, WLSA director Wayne Biffert has been giving people rides along the trail to the Fraser River on the club's Argo 8x8 Avenger.

"The Rick Hansen Foundation donated the Argo and the trailer about four or five years ago," Biffert said, as he waited for staff and clients from the Association of Community Living to arrive. "We got the grant with the understanding we'd take people on excursions who might not normally go on them."

Normally motorized vehicles aren't allowed on the trail past the parking lot at the foot of Moore Mountain, however, Biffert said the City made an exception for him.

There are steps and railings added to the Argo that were fabricated by Cariboo Steel at no charge. Spectra Power Sports does all the maintenance for free and Best Buy Sun Valley Gas donates the fuel for program, Biffert said.
