SPCA hosts activity day open house Saturday

The Williams Lake and District Branch of the BC SPCA is hosting an open house and animal-themed day of fun this Saturday.

The Williams Lake and District Branch of the BC SPCA is hosting and open house an animal-themed day of fun this Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Highlights of the Open House include kids’ activities, educational displays, shelter tours, face painting and refreshments.

Manager Lorie Chortyk says the open house event is an opportunity for people to meet the animals available for adoption and to have fun learning more about how to help animals in the community.

In addition to a day of activities for the whole family the branch will promote the joy of pet guardianship over the weekend, May 24 to 26, with half-price adoption fees on all cats, kittens and rabbits.

“We’re also asking members of the community to help animals in need by dropping off urgently needed items for the shelter,” says local general manager Lorie Chortyk.

The co-sponsor of the open house is Hill’s Canada which supplies food for animals at SPCA shelters.

She says their wish list of donations includes Hill’s brand wet cat and dog food and red or black KONG toys, patio umbrellas to help shade the dogs when they are playing outside during the summer, and digital cameras.

The Williams Lake branch is also in need of a few loads of gravel for dog pens if anyone in the community is able to help with that need, Chortyk says.
