The city’s Social Planning Council met recently and members participated in a discussion on racism.

Council members Sharon Taylor (left), Jessica Knodel, and George Atamanenko hold up T-shirts that illustrate some of the issues being talked about in the Canadian Mental Health Association Cariboo Branch’s Dirty Laundry anti-racism campaign.

Campaign spokesperson Marilyn Livingston said the Social Planning Council supports the community in building an integrated approach to the complex problems associated with racism that take into account social, economic, and environmental concerns.

During the discussion she said the council members were willing to delve into some heartfelt conversation on the importance addressing racism.

“This conversation is not always easy to have but moving through the discomfort and gaining more knowledge is a beginning for change,” Livingston said.
