Heavy Metal Rocks in Williams Lake is taking place at the Centennial gravel pit on Bond Lake Road between Wednesday, May 9 and Saturday, May 12.
School District 27, WorkSafeBC, local industry, and government representatives are teaming up to give a group of high school students a lesson in “heavy metal.” Eighteen teens interested in a career in the construction industry were selected for the program. They each get about an hour and a half to spend on 16 different pieces of equipment. Prior to hands-on training, they took industrial first aid training, workplace safety training, and orientation in the classroom and in the field.
Experienced equipment operators acted as mentors to students during the event.
