Collectors were lined up out the door recently to get first crack at items up for grabs at Williams Lake’s first annual Comic Book and Nerdy Paraphernalia Garage Sale.
From old video games, Lego and coins to action figures and hundreds of comic series up for grabs, there was something for everyone at the inaugural event, created by local businesswoman and self-professed “nerd” Jazmyn Douillard.
Douillard said she misses having a comic book shop in Williams Lake, noting that type of business and the garage sale attracts like-minded people under one roof.
“I miss comic shops, seeing other nerds, I really do,” she said, herself selling off some X-Men series comics. “It’s easy to find your people in a comic shop and discover other titles.”
Her partner Terry Lyons was also on hand selling some of his comics, mostly Spiderman series.
“Tell them the truth honey, you’re selling your comic books to make room for mine.”
Kayla Kam, 24, parted with about 200 titles in her Manga collection to save money to become a comic writer herself.
“I want to tell my own stories and inspire people.”
If you’re a collector and missed the event, don’t despair. Douillard hopes to host another event next year.
