Sea Cadets host Annual Ceremonial Review in lakecity

The 202 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Chilcotin’s performed their Annual Ceremonial Review Sunday.

A chance to show parents, family and friends what they’d learned throughout the year, the 202 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Chilcotin’s performed their Annual Ceremonial Review Sunday at the Elks Hall.

Held at the end of every cadet year, the activities presented are some examples of their accomplishments.

Commanding Officer David Frey said many hours of training, practice and fun went into the year and the awards ceremony is a presentation for accomplishments cadets have achieved.

Marches and inspections were made, 13 awards were presented and displays created by cadets were setup on the Elks Hall stage for guests to view.

“I think it went well,” Frey said. “The cadets work on various activities throughout the year so at the end this is a good chance to show the parents and the public what we do throughout the year. We’ve got lots of hard-working kids here and there are lots of great opportunities in the program.”

Navy League BC Mainland Division Representative Ester Barone, who was visiting from Kamloops, was also impressed with the review.

“I think 202 Chilcotin did a wonderful job,” she said. “It’s great to see the number of cadets out there and everybody here. It’s a great community, so awesome job.”

This year’s reviewing officer was Lieutenant-Commander Bernice Debert, who has a cadet career dating back to 1977 with the 2946 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) in Pine Point, North West Territories.

Opportunities available to the cadets in the program include marksmanship, biathlon, first aid, orienteering, sailing, deployments on orca patrol vessels, deployment on tall ships, deployment on coast guard ships, summer camps, summer employment at camps and international exchanges.
