An unusual metal pod sitting outside of the Station House Gallery is attracting a lot of attention.

The unusual looking pod is a sculptural piece built by October’s featured artist Karl Mattson who lives on a farm in the Dawson Creek area that is in the middle of natural gas extraction industry.

He built the mobile survival pod and another unusual sculputural piece inside the gallery to bring attention to his concerns about sour gas flares. He says he is not opposed to industrial development but he has been unsuccessfully asking government to supply his family with safety gear such as oxygen and oxygen masks for them to use in an emergency.
