It was the first time Sigrid Ludwig-Dieck attempted a fundraiser but now she’s found her niche.

Ludwig-Dieck organized the Valentine event From Heart to Heart Feb. 5 and 6 to raise money for the Chiwid Transition House.

The event was supported by numerous community businesses and included a raffle and silent auction that raised $968.58.

Ludwig-Dieck says she got involved because she was once a victim. Due to the event’s success she’s already set the date for next year’s event and is planning a similar event in June.

“I really like to do scrapbooking,” she says. “Quite a lot of women like to do it.”

Funds raised from this and all future events will support the transition house.

Karen Hewitt, social program supervisor at the Cariboo Friendship Society, says it means a lot to the women in the house.

“This money will be used to support them when leaving the house to set up their household,” says Hewitt adding it’s particularly important as the society has no fund of its own to support the women in this way.
