Rotary fitness park open for all in Williams Lake

The park includes nine user-friendly exercise units and is designed to be accessible to all

A new community fitness park is available to use at Kiwanis Park in Williams Lake.

Construction of the fitness park was completed just a few days before its opening on Nov. 6 after two years of planning by the Rotary Club of Williams Lake.

The fitness park is open year-round and includes nine exercise units with some offering accessibility options. It's meant to be an option for anyone wanting to get out and move, whether you're a parent whose child is playing in the Kiwanis Park playground or a senior living in the nearby AgeCare Cariboo Place.

“It’s been in the works for a long time, so it’s really nice to see it completed,” said Amber Stratton who is the president of the Rotary Club of Williams Lake.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor was at the park’s opening and praised those involved in the project.

“I want to give my heartfelt congratulations to them for the collaboration,” Rathor said.

Rotary received grants for the fitness park from the city of Williams Lake, the Cariboo Regional District, the Northern Development Initiative Trust, the BC Alliance for Healthy Living Society and Rotary District 5040. The total cost of the project amounted to $90,000.

“I hope that everybody can use it and take care of it,” Stratton said.

The Rotary Club of Williams Lake, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary on Nov. 29, plans to have a grand opening for the fitness park in the spring.
