The Cariboo Festival Honours Concert was a delightful evening of entertainment featuring a variety of performances in piano, speech arts, musical theatre, classical voice, violin, fiddle and choir.

The concert produced lots of applause for all performers, some great laughs for some musical theatre and speech arts presentations and a rare standing ovation for one young competitor who will be joining the group selected by the adjudicators to attend the Performing Arts BC provincial festival in Kamloops May 28 to June 1.

Morgan Fraser amazed the audience with his rendition of ‘O Sole Mio sung in Italian with the flare and delivery one might expect from any of the great male Italian opera singers. Fraser will compete in the classical voice section of the provincial festival.

Paul Noble, who will compete in the Intermediate Musical Theatre category at provincials and Keziah Froese, who will attend the provincial festival as an observer in Intermediate Classical Voice and Intermediate Musical Theatre, delivered a delightful rendition of the song Sue Me from the musical Guys and Dolls.

Meaghan Amos, who sang Quiet by Minchin, will attend the provincial festival as the Junior Classical Voice Competitor.

Kiera Dyer, who recited her poem On the Tree Tops was selected to attend the provincial festival as a Speech Arts Observer.

Destiny Watson, who sang Far from the Home I Love by Bock will attend the provincial festival as the Junior B Musical Theatre competitor.

Eloise Hobi, who did not perform Saturday, was chosen to attend the provincial festival as the Junior B Musical Theatre Observer/Alternate

The delegates chosen to attend the provincial festival in June were announced at the end of the Honours Concert held Saturday evening at the Cariboo Bethel Church and opened with Quintet Plus leading the audience in the singing of O’ Canada and their winning festival entry Sing. The Cariboo Chilcotin Youth Fiddlers were the only other large group to perform, giving the audience a hint of what is to come later this week when they stage their musical The Life of a Fiddle at the Gibraltar Room.

In between performances some of the perpetual awards and bursaries were presented to performers.

Others awards were presented during the competition portion of the Cariboo Festival which took place in various venues around Williams Lake between April 20 and 28.
