PHOTOS: Painting party celebrates women in Williams Lake

An event at the Seamaiden Boutique livened up downtown Williams Lake, adding colour and creativity on a Friday

Twenty women in Williams Lake were enjoying a night out on the town on March 7 for International Women's Day.

"I always wanted to do a sip and paint," said Courtney Samways, owner and operator of Seamaiden Boutique in downtown Williams Lake, who organized the event.

She said she had enjoyed attending sip and paint nights as a participant when she lived in Australia, where they are quite popular.

She reached out to Tiffany Doering, a local artist and part of the Cariboo Art Beat collective, and they both wanted to do something in honour of International Women's Day, so they set a date.

The night of the event, Samways said everyone was having fun, and she did not appear worried about getting paint on the merchandise, as her boutique has rental designer dresses.

"I thought we'd be pretty safe," she said.

The evening included snacks and drinks and instructions in painting a silhouette painting of a tropical seamaiden on canvas, for the price of $80. Tickets sold out within a week and Samways said she looks forward to hosting more events, including on Easter and Mother's Day.

Samways said she would be donating part of the proceeds from the March 7 event to the Women's Contact Society in support of women in need. To find out what is coming up next at Seamaiden Boutique, check their website or social media page.
