After months of training, the Wild West Riders drill team is ready to entertain at the 96th Annual Williams Lake Stampede.
Coach Nicole Roberts said the group has practiced 33 times since March, and held a run-through Friday evening (June 21) for family and friends at the Stampede Grounds.
"We're down to the crunch time now and we're excited for Stampede."
This year there are two mother, daughter duos in the group; Jennifer and Brynn Hansen and Heather and Bayley Cail.
"To get my mom back on a horse I had to join the drill team, and now here she is," said Bayley Cail.
For Cynthia English, who is riding for her eighth year with the team, she loves the commradrie.
"I love riding with the girls and the sport of rodeo and I love being part of the Stampede."
Roberts is coaching the drill team for the third year now and enjoys bringing the group together.
"I really enjoy the challenge and getting everybody together and on the same page for the drills. And I enjoy teaching."
She recommends the rodeo audience to watch for the patterns and risky moves where riders are crossing paths with each other.
"It's a fun group. I think everybody here has the need for speed and the same passion."
