A presentation on integrating the concepts of personalized learning into the public education system will be the focus of a public meeting taking place Thursday, Feb. 3 at Glendale Elementary School.

The presentation starts at 3:30 p.m. with Rick Davis, the ministry of education’s superintendent of achievement; Sheila Rooney, a retired superintendent with the Burnaby school district; and School District 27 Superintendent Diane Wright.

Wright says the presentation is designed to stimulate conversation on the concept of personalized learning and gather input on how the ideas might evolve for the district.

Wright has assembled the information on personalized learning in a PowerPoint presentation called A Journey to Personalized Learning: Creating a vision for our students in the 21st Century. The concepts are rooted in discussions from around the world on changing needs in education to address the forces of globalization, technology, and demographics related to the realities of a job market that is constantly shifting.

“This direction from the Ministry of Education is rooted in discussions from around the world about the changes necessary in education to ensure our children are successful in the 21st century,” Wright says. “It’s really about how you move through the world and use information.”
