Nurse saluted by Cariboo Memorial Hospital Auxiliary supporter

Thanks to a generous supporter, a nurse at Cariboo Memorial Hospital was celebrated with a gift basket.

Crystal Bremner, left, a nurse at Cariboo Memorial Hospital, received a massive gift basket thanks to a kind donor and the hospital auxiliary.

When Marg Bublitz of the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was selling raffle tickets, she was blown away by Karen Goertzen's support.

Goertzen offered to purchase $100 worth of tickets in support of the organization, for the chance to win a quilt by Elaine Watt, a Bateman print or a gift basket.

"That's pretty amazing to support our group that much," said Bublitz.

So Bublitz was happy to hear Goertzen had won one of the large gift baskets, but then she was even more happy to hear Goertzen wanted to donate the basket back in order to help support nurses working in the community.

The auxiliary reached out to a nurse to then send out an email asking for nurses to put in their names for a free draw for the basket, and Crystal Bremner was the lucky winner.

With all of the negative news and the challenges health care workers at Cariboo Memorial Hospital might be facing, Bublitz thought it was a nice counterpoint to have something positive like this to offer up instead.

"It's just so neat that she wanted it to go to a nurse," said Bublitz.
