When art and bikes collide, magic appears.
Public art reflects a community and its surroundings. This is certainly true of the new piece recently installed on Fox Mountain. Chris Masters, a master of mountain biking and art, recently created a sculptural metal piece that captures the beauty of nature and the dynamic essence of mountain biking.
By working beyond the walls of a gallery or museum, this project connects arts, culture, and recreation and seamlessly ties it to the landscape.
The piece is on the top of Fox Mountain near the Mason Road trailhead and exposes a diverse population to art. A location frequented by walkers, hikers, trail runners, snowshoers, fat bikers, and mountain bikers, it is busy year-round. A few of the trails in Williams Lake are punctuated with art, usually by the trail builder, but this is the first commissioned piece and it transforms the space. It acts as an entranceway inviting the public to enjoy the trails and the surrounding beauty.
This project was made possible by funding from the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society, the Williams Lake Cycling Club, and the metalwork skills of Chris Masters.
