100 Mile House area artist Neil Pinkett is showing his work this month at the 2016 Art Walk and Sale in Williams Lake which kicked off with a guided walk around the community on Friday, Aug. 5.

His work is on display at RE/MAX Williams Lake Realty.

Originally from Nottinghamshire, England, Pinkett moved to Canada in the late 1990s and has lived in the south Cariboo for the last eight years.

“I am a self-taught artist,” Pinkett says in his biography. “I work primarily in oils and acrylics but previously concentrated on drawing, often using a pointillist technique that shows to some degree in my paintings.”

His favourite subject-matters are trees and reflections on water which are beautifully reflected in his collection for the art walk.

“I get much of my inspiration from the Canim and Ruth Lake areas, but I also slip in the occasional scene from previous haunts (Jasper, Vancouver Island, Yorkshire, and the Outer Hebrides),” Pinkett says.

Over the last decade he has had several solo art shows in B.C. and Alberta, and has taken part in numerous group shows.

He has also painted five murals in 100 Mile House.

Some of his work has been published, including a small illustrated book on the Isle of Harris in Scotland, and a series of sheep-themed cartoon postcards.

The 2016 Art Walk and Sale in Williams Lake has grown substantially this year to include 63 business and public venues hosting the work of more than 63 artists.

Last year 54 artists and venues participated in the art walk.

Art walk booklets are available at the Williams Lake Tribune/Weekend Advisor and at the various venues hosting the work of the artists.

By having their passport booklets stamped at the venues they visit, art walkers have the opportunity to enter a draw to win the grand prize of a beautiful Prosperity Bear carving created by Spirit Carver Dean Ross.

The bear can be seen along with some of Ross’s other works at the Lake City Auto Care Mall on Oliver Street.

Walkers qualify for entries for the grand prize draw according to the number of stamps collected: 1-16 stamps equals one entry; 17 to 32 stamps equals two entries; 32 to 48 stamps equals three entries; and 48 to 63 stamps equals four entries.

Walkers also have the opportunity to participate in The People’s Choice Awards by voting for their favourite artists and merchants.

The three most popular artists and merchants will be recognized with a people’s choice award.
