A Suicide Awareness gathering and concert will be held in the lakecity on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The event will start at 3:30 p.m. in the Gwen Ringwood amphitheater in Boitanio Park with a few words of introduction about suicide and what suicide prevention is all about.

A moment of silence will also be held at the memorial tree in Boitanio Park.

After that people will walk to the Longhouse in the Stampede grounds for a concert, refreshments and information on suicide and suicide prevention.

Organizer Bettina Schoen says the concert will alternate between musical entertainment, stories and information about suicide and suicide prevention and intervention as well as available community resources.

Refreshments will also be provided.

The performers will include Brent Morton (Drum and Bell Tower), Sam Tudor, Amber Smith, the Nenqayni Drummers, Dynamic Downfall and others.

The Williams Lake and Area Suicide and Sudden Death Committee is hosting this community event.

According to the committee Canada loses 4,000 people a year to suicide and another 23,000 Canadians are hospitalized each year for attempted suicide.
