All three mayoral candidates will be flipping burgers at Walmart this Saturday, Nov. 12 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. to help with the Walmart Rewards Food Bank Drive.

A subsidiary of Mississauga-based Wal-Mart Canada has also announced a new initiative that it says could bring hundreds of thousands of badly needed dollars into the coffers of food banks across Canada, including the Williams Lake food bank.

The plan   sees Walmart Canada Bank donate $5 to local food banks every time a customer enrols in the Walmart Rewards MasterCard program over the six-week period that begins Dec. 9.

In 2010 Walmart raised and donated more than $23 million to charities and other organizations in need.

“Faced with increasing demand for their services, community food banks need our support now morre than every,” says Jennifer Sault, director of Walmart Canada Bank. Funds raised  will go toward providing food and vital services to help families in need.
