The Cariboo Festival continues this week with the piano section of competition taking place April 15-18 at Calvary Church with adjudicator Maureen Hollins.

Hollins’ early piano training was with Audrey Mallinson and Glen Geary.

She continued piano study with Dale Reubart, Phyllis Schuldt and Winifred Scott Wood, and studied composition with Jean Coulthard.

Her education includes Performer’s Diplomas from both the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Victoria Conservatory of Music;  a Bachelor of Music Degree in performance piano from the University of British Columbia; the Professional Development Program from Simon Fraser University; and a Masters of Divinity Degree from the Vancouver School of Theology.

Hollins established her piano studio in Surrey in the late 1970s, and since that time has adjudicated music festivals throughout British Columbia.

As a clinician, she presents master classes and workshops for teachers and students.

Hollins’ students are recipients of numerous awards from local festivals, and the Victoria Conservatory.

She is half of the Hollins and Condie Duo, which is a collaboration in pedagogy as well as piano performance.

Maureen loves to teach.

Sharing the skill of piano playing and the meaning of music with our young people is a challenge and an honour.
