Legion seeks to help veterans and their families

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139’s Poppy Fund Committee is working to compile a list of all veterans and their widows.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139’s Poppy Fund Committee is working to compile a list of all veterans and their widows who may reside in the Cariboo-Chilcotin area with a view to providing assistance to those who may be in need.

“There are many veterans who are not members of the Royal Canadian Legion who might require assistance due to sickness, injury or misfortune,” says Jan Hermiston, legion member and volunteer for the Legion Poppy Fund.

“The Royal Canadian Legion may be able to assist these veterans and their families through the Poppy Fund,” Hermiston says.

She notes military veterans and their widows do not need to be members of the legion to receive assistance.

She says the legion is grateful to all veteran’s for their dedication and commitment during the First, Second, Korean and Afghanistan combat missions and invites veterans and their families to an open house at the legion on Nov. 11 after  the traditional Remembrance Day services.

“Come and enjoy some good times, good food, and good music,” Hermiston says.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 is located at 385 Barnard Street in Williams Lake, B.C. People can also call 250-392-7311 or 250-392-4255 for assistance.
