The Horsefly community hall was filled with eager bidders Saturday night for the annual 139 Children’s auction.

The 139 Children’s Fundraising Society auction fundraiser held at the Horsefly Community Hall Feb. 12 raised approximately $10,000 for children in the Cariboo-Chilcotin area.

Limited to 115 seats, the auction has been a Horsefly institution for the last 12 years.

Auctioneer Ab Newman, assisted by 26-year 139 Children’s charity chair Greg Ashley, did a super job of whipping the crowd to a spending frenzy, and for sure, the children of the Cariboo/Chilcotin owe these two fine individuals a huge debt of gratitude.

Cindy Hoy, the main organizer of this event, assisted by Beth Marsh, came up with a fine display of merchandise donated by businesses and individuals from Horsefly and Williams Lake.

The 139 Children’s club presented certificates of appreciation to all of the volunteers who made the evening a total success.

These included Cindy Hoy, Beth Marsh, Faye and Orin Knox, Chris and Ernie Gruhs, Sandy and Jim Middleton, Sharon and Hugh Barrett, Bernadette Duscharme, Becky Patenaude, Lynn Lipp, the Horsefly 4-H Club, and the Horsefly Women’s Institute in appreciation for their volunteer assistance in this effort.

With the limited hall capacity, and a peak population of about 600 hardy souls in the winter, Horsefly stands tall among B.C. communities in our commitment to the children of the Cariboo every year for the past 12 years.

Congratulations once again to the fine citizens of Horsefly.
