Halloween fun at Scout Island

Scout Island’s Family Explorers and Young Naturalists’ Club are hosting a Haunted Nature Saturday, Oct. 29.

Scout Island’s Family Explorers and Young Naturalists’ Club invite the public to join them on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a Haunted Nature House family evening from 4 to 6 p.m.

Have a happy and healthy pre-Halloween event with traditional Jack O’ Lantern carving, costume contest for the most Earth-friendly outfit ending with a twilight costume and pumpkin parade around the island at 5 p.m.

Mary Forbes will be judging costumes and says she can be bribed with small homemade treats but asks people not to bring any candy that comes with a garbage wrapper.

Participants are also asked to bring their own carving tools and a prepared pumpkin shell (guts removed and composted) to carve into a Jack O’ Lantern to light their way on the walk around the centre and to take home for Halloween on Monday evening.

Participants must also bring a small flashlight or LED light to light the lantern — no candles are permitted.

Kids must supervise all parents at all times to ensure they are being spooky.

This is also a peanut- free event.
