Guru Nanak Sikh Temple on Mackenzie Avenue invites the community to join them for the Vaisakhi celebrations this weekend Friday April 22, through Sunday noon, April 24.

Reading of the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday morning and be read continuously by various temple members until reading of the entire book is completed on Sunday morning. The flag raising and changing ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.

Reading of the holy book concludes at about 10 a.m. on Sunday morning followed by prayers, music and singing until noon when a special traditional vegetarian luncheon is held.

Food is available at the temple throughout the three-day ceremony.

Temple president Harinder Vaid invites the whole community to visit the temple during Vaisakhi.

Visiting priest Mohan Singh from Vancouver will celebrate Vaisakhi with the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple congregation from April 18 to 24.

Special evening programs will be held at the temple April 18-21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Vaid said. Dinner is also served every evening.
