Grade 5 and 6 students from Chilcotin Road elementary develop a better understanding of art and the various art forms and styles by visiting the Station House Gallery.

In November, the students made their second trip to the Station House and were fortunate to have the exhibiting artist as their mentor for this second visit, says teacher Mary Alice Self.

She says Tiffany Simard graciously volunteers her time to make the visits possible.

“As teachers, we try to expose the students to as many artists and styles as we can,” Self says.

“Usually, the students have experimented with the medium themselves in class and have been able to view the artists’ websites before we go to the gallery.”

For this trip, she says they were able to have the artist, Catherine Roland, join them to explain her inspirations and to answer questions, so the experience was even more powerful.
