One hundred French Immersion students kick off Carnival celebrations in Williams Lake with a visit to city hall Thursday. Due to the -31 C temperature outside

Canadian Parents for French – Williams Lake Chapter (CPF) hosted French Week activities for French Immersion students on Thursday, Feb.6.

Students started their day by raising the flag at city hall and singing O Canada in French. They normally sing outside but with temperatured dipping in the -28C range they sang inside city hall.

From there students headed to the Cariboo Memorial Complex where they enjoyed skating in the ice rink and French movie in the Gibraltar Room.

CPF also arranged for tasty treats from the Sugar Shack including poutine, beaver tails and maple candy.

CPF was founded in 1977, by a group of parents that wanted to ensure that children would have the opportunity to become bilingual in the Canadian school system.  CPF now has 150 chapters nationwide.  The Williams Lake Chapter meets monthly.
