Do you find you are in a situation of juggling debts and bills, or do you question whether you are saving enough for the future?

Does payday always seem too far away?

Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy is offering a series of free seminars on financial literacy, during the winter and spring months. The workshop series start with an introductory session this Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Williams Lake library.

This is a special event to showcase the project and local resources that are available, says Kirsten Stark, the financial literacy project co-ordinator for Cariboo Partners for Literacy.

She says people will also be able to register for the free workshops during the Tuesday session.

Registration is required as each workshop can accommodate up to 20 people.

These free evening seminars on different topics, with different guest speakers, will be presented once a month starting in February.

The workshops are suited to anyone seeking to learn more about their financial state of affairs, says Stark.

Topics will include:

• budgeting and money management on Tuesday, Feb. 7 with speaker Bob Osmachenko

• credit and debt management on March 6 with CIBC manager Kirby Fofonoff

• income tax on Tuesday, April 3 with Brian Purdy from PMT Chartered Accountants

• home financing on Tuesday, May 8 with Scotiabank manager Paul Eves

• financial planning on Tuesday, June 5 with RBC investments planner Joanne Stacey

• smart consumerism (date to be announced later).

Workshops will be held at either the Williams Lake library or Women’s Contact Society meeting room.

The library will also be setting up a book display of financial literacy information available at the library.

Stark says the project is proudly supported by a grant from the TD Financial Literacy Grant Fund.

To register for any one of the workshops people can leave a message stating their name, phone number and the workshop they are interested in attending, by phone at 250-392-8161 (option 3) or e-mail kirsten@caribooliteracy.com.
