Food bank needs volunteers

The Salvation Army in Williams Lake is in dire need of volunteers to help make up food hampers.

Capt. Claudia Kadonaga says they have made up 95 hampers this month alone and added a second intake worker to try and deal with the need.

However, she says they have also lost some of their long-time volunteers and are still in dire need of more help.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to come and help fill the hampers.

“Even if a group wanted to help by coming in during the evening we would open up for them,” Kadonaga says.

She says the food bank received 66 new clients last month and they filled 288 hampers for families and individuals.

The program has also been changed somewhat to allow people in serious need to access the food bank more often, Kadonaga says.
