First Nations culture and traditions were celebrated at several community events this past week in Williams Lake.

The Williams Lake Indian Band’s traditional Father’s Day Powwow was held in the arbour at the Chief Will-Yum campsite Friday through Sunday with music, dancing, visiting and special celebrations and tributes.

Then on Tuesday, National Aboriginal Day celebrations were held downtown with a parade and activities such as crafts and games for kids in Boitanio Park and activites at Thompson Rivers University.

Colourful and artistic regalia was evident among powwow dancers at all of the events and at the aboriginal fashion show that wrapped up events at TRU Tuesday afternoon. Activities at TRU included a powwow, lehal tournament, fashion show, mock archaeology exploration for the children and more.
