Chimney, Felker Lake Fire Department chief Allen Schaad (left) and deputy chief Bill Margetts (right) generously donate the department’s old fire truck and gear to David Sakaki of Kamloops Fire Fighters Operation Nicaragua.

The operation aims to provide adequate fire fighting equipment by bringing fire fighting supplies to Nicaragua by boat.

The truck, also filled with the department’s old fire fighting suits, is sorely needed, they all said.

“They would never be able to afford anything like this in a million years,” Sakaki said. “The people there are used to fighting fires in T-shirts.”

Schaad said the Chimney, Felker Lake Fire Department is happy to lend a helping hand.

“We like to call it playing well with others,” Schaad said, as the truck and gear originally came from the Williams Lake Fire Department. “The Williams Lake Fire Department got new gear and we were the recipients [of their used gear]. Now our old gear can go to them [in Nicaragua].”
