Family History Centre offers new web site search programs

People interested in researching their family history can get a look at the new research programs available at the Family History Centre and Cariboo Chilcotin Genealogy Group open house this Saturday.

People interested in researching their family history can get a look at the new research programs available at the Family History Centre and Cariboo Chilcotin Genealogy Group open house this Saturday.

The open house will be from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Family History Centre which is located in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 3039 Edwards Drive, says Howard Saunders, who works with centre manager Phyllis Galloway.

In addition to its extensive microfilm records available through the Mormon church records in Salt Lake City, Saunders says the centre now has several new web sites which people can use free of charge to do their research.

New web sites the centre has available for public use are Ancestry.com; Find My Past; and Footnotes.

“The cost is quite a bit to use the programs otherwise. Everything we offer is free other than for photo copying,” Saunders says.

He says the centre will be closing for the summer on Friday, June 10 but if people would like to access the centre after that date visits can be arranged by calling Howard Saunders at 250-392-1813 or Phyllis Galloway at 250-392-9472. People don’t have to be a Mormon Church member to access the Family History Centre resources.
