Puppet shows, storytelling, music, crafts and the famous book walk are all part of the 12th annual Family Fest coming up this Sunday, Jan. 29.

The event takes place in the Gibraltar Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

This free, community event is enjoyed by hundreds of visitors each year and helps to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and early childhood development. Children can read a book with the mascot Sir Read A Lot.

And they can try lots of different activities that are hosted by community organizations and local businesses.

The Child Development Centre will be hosting remote control car racing and the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society will be bringing in the waste wise worms.

There will be a well-stocked children’s book swap table and every child will receive at least one new book.

Each family also receives a reusable Family Fest bag containing literacy related information and activities, so the fun can continue at home.
