Bright, colourful, hand-made aprons will help children and adults recognize the volunteers helping out during Family Fest Sunday, Feb. 13.

The free event will be held in the Marie Sharpe Elementary School gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All ages are welcome to attend the literacy-based event.

“Everyone will go home with a book or more than one book,” says Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy director Lil Mack, adding that instead of a cakewalk, there will be a book walk.

Other fun activities taking place include puppet making, followed by a puppet show, music, crafts, Valentine’s Day card and bookmark making, face painting, free photos with the CCPL mascot Sir Read-A-Lot, a community map, and a variety of free food, such as bannock, pakoras, and sandwiches.

“The families are going to be able to make their own travel bags,” Mack says.

The Williams Lake Early Childhood Development Network brings together representatives from many different service providers to work together on providing information and events to build healthy children and a strong community. Last year, 357 people attended Family Fest, including 101 school-aged children, 33 babies, and 57 toddlers.
