Motorists should keep a sharp eye out for more than the usual activity by lakecity youth this weekend as they prepare for and participate in their annual graduation ceremonies, Grad Parade and Dry Grad party.
Students at Williams Lake, Columneetza, and GROW secondary schools have a full day of graduation ceremonies and fun lined up for this Saturday, June 4, centered at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.
The WLSS formal graduation ceremonies and awards presentations start at 9:30 a.m. in the large arena. The Columneetza graduation ceremonies start at 1 p.m. also in the large arena.
The annual Grad Parade entries gather on Second Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Participants will access Second Avenue via Rose Street off Mackenzie Avenue.
The parade to the Cariboo Memorial Complex for the Dry Grad celebrations begins at 6 p.m.
The parade starts at the Comer Street intersection, proceeding along Second Avenue, turning left on Borland Street, left again on Third Avenue, then right on Proctor Street, continuing to the complex.
The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy this unique parade which includes graduates dressed in their prom finery travelling to Dry Grad in all manner of transport from tractors, to bicycles, to antique cars and even in boats.
The grads will disembark and enter the complex at the back entrance of the complex for their Dry Grad prom and night-long party which involves a variety of activities throughout the complex.
The Dry Grad theme this year is Round the World.
As in past years each graduate will receive two tickets for family and friends to come in to the complex to see the prom decorations and have pictures taken with their graduate. The visitation period is right after the parade from about 7 to 9 p.m.
