Renowned drummer Granville Johnson will host three hand-drumming sessions in celebration of Black History Month this month.

The workshops take place at Satya Yoga Studio downstairs in Delainey’s Centre Mall on Oliver Street on Saturday, Feb. 18.

“Three times are available to participate, socialize or just kick back and listen,” says event organizer Mary Forbes.

There will be a sunrise drum circle from 7 to 8:45 a.m. with a minimum pre-registration of five participants.

The afternoon session is in two parts from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 5:15 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended. The performance is not to be missed, Forbes says.

Between 7 and 9 p.m. Granville will tell traditional stories in word and beat with the help of his beautiful handmade African drum made of rawhide goat skin stretched over a Ghanaian mahogany  frame.

Pre-registration is recommended for all events. Registration and fee information is available at Dandelion Living from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday or call 778-412-9100 to book your seat. Children are free and babies are welcome at all events.

Djembe drums will be provided for use and will be available for sale.
