The Cariboo Draft Horse club would like to thank everyone who came out in support of its annual Valentine sleigh rid that took place Feb. 13, and it is estimated that nearly 350 people attended and enjoyed horse-drawn sleigh rides on a beautiful sunny day.

The weather was perfect, lots of snow and warm temperatures.

There was a concession with hotdogs and hot chocolate that was also a success.

Members of the club who brought their horses were Merv and Shirley Furlong with their Belgian team, Johnny and Little Guy, and Bud and Sandy Weir with their team of Suffolk Punch geldings, Levi and Wrangler.

Becky Telfer brought her Morgan gelding Black Jack, and Karen and Kim Sepkowski used both their team of grey Percheron mares, Donna and Willow and their team of Suffolk Punch geldings, Bentley and Lincoln.

The club thanks everyone for their generous donations, which go towards helping the club pay for its insurance and enables it to put on rides like this for the public.

The club raised just over $1,000, which included a very generous donation from Randy and Brenda Beatson of Heartland Toyota for $250.

The ride saw families come out from all over the Cariboo, as well as a family who had just come straight from the airport after travelling from France.

Thanks again Williams Lake!

Karen Sepkowski is the event co-ordinator for the Cariboo Draft Horse Club.

The club’s next public event will be providing a day of wagon rides for the residents at the Williams Lake Seniors Village as well as residents from other senior homes in the area.

This is an event that the club has enjoyed putting on for some years now.

The horses will be present for the Stampede parade, the Williams Lake Harvest Fair, the Horsefly parade, and other local functions.

The club looks forward to its sleigh ride again next February and hopes that it has the same fantastic turn out.
