The Next General Mercantile (NGM) in Williams Lake is inviting people to make homemade poppies at its Nov. 5 workshop run by Waste Wise program coordinator Mary Forbes.
Waste Wise is a program of the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society which aims to educate people on the easy actions they can take to reduce waste.
NGM owner Dani Gastaldello and Forbes will be guiding guests as they make their own poppies out of upcycled materials.
This is the first time they are running a poppy making workshop which they thought would be a nice way to remember veterans while also learning about the importance of recycling and waste reduction.
The workshop runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to the public but requires registration. The event is free thanks to funding from the Waste Wise program, but donations will be accepted and given to the Williams Lake legion’s poppy campaign.
Crafters are welcome to bring their own materials, however there will be some provided.
