The Council of Forest Industries announced in Prince George June 28 that Williams Lake secondary grad Amanda (Amy) Penny and Columneetza secondary grad Benno Durfeld, have each been awarded one of 10 2012 COFI Convention Legacy Scholarships. Established in the spring of 2007, the 10 $1,000 COFI Convention Legacy Scholarships are awarded to students who enroll in a professional, technical or trades program in one of B.C.’s 10 Interior Post-Secondary colleges or universities leading to a career in the forest industry.
Amy has enrolled at Thompson Rivers University and will be studying science while Benno will be studying Forestry at the University of Northern B.C.
The Council of Forest Industries is the voice of the B.C. interior forest industry. Member companies operate production facilities in more than 60 forest dependent communities in the interior of British Columbia whose operations account for approximately 80 per cent of all B.C. softwood lumber shipments and about 35 per cent of Canadian softwood lumber shipments.
