The community is invited to help paint a mural and plant a tree this Friday to celebrate  an Extra Good Friday, Earth Day in the lakecity.

The mural will be painted on the alley side of the Delainey Building, at 271 Oliver St. between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. with reclaimed and gifted exterior latex paint, says Mary Forbes, community presenter for the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society.

People who wish to participate are asked to bring along a paint brush, rubber gloves, safety glasses and water to drink.

Before the mural painting people are invited to plant a tree at Scout Island Nature Centre between 9 a.m. and noon. Participants are advised to wear good shoes, bring garden gloves and wear long pants.

Thursday, April 21, Forbes says local businesses are also invited to join 10 classes from Marie Sharpe elementary as they clean up Williams Lake for Earth Day.

Between 1 and 2:30 p.m. she says Marie Sharpe classes will walk the streets of Williams Lake picking up garbage and need help from business staff, garbage bags, trucks, “anything to support these kids that are working hard to make Williams Lake a better place today and for the future,”  Forbes says.

To help out call Forbes at 250-855-8443 or e-mail mmmforbes@yahoo.ca.

“You are welcome to show up at Marie Sharpe at 12:30 p.m. April 21 to join a litter-picking team,” Forbes invites.

Forbes says many community partners will be participating in the events including the Station House Gallery, Cariboo Growers, the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society, The Council of Canadians, Satya Yoga studio and The Potato House Project.
