Invited guests were treated to an afternoon tea at the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin Wednesday to celebrate the City of Williams Lake’s 88th birthday.

During the annual event Mayor Walt Cobb shared the honour of cutting the cake with two people who share the city’s birthday, rancher Carl Buchholtz and new museum president George Atamanenko, who are both 88 years old this year.

Williams Lake cowboy poet Frank Gleeson read his new poem celebrating the city’s 88th birthday and master of ceremonies Surinderpal Rathor presented a short history about the city.

Congratulations were delivered by Cariboo Prince George MP Todd Doherty by video computer link and Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett’s constituency assistant Jenny Huffman presented Mayor Walt Cobb with a certificate marking the milestone.

Volunteers including Stampede Queen Cheyenne Shoults served a light lunch and refreshments to guests. Rathor pointed out that the lunch was provided by volunteers and local businesses at no cost to the museum.

Winding up the afternoon museum board members Wayne Lucier and Alan Giddens entertained the guests with a few songs which had 19-month-old Jack Bourdon up and dancing to the beat.
