Drawing is a skill that can be cultivated and improved over time, says lakecity muralist Dwayne Davis.

“It’s about seeing and creating form and space with the use of line and shade,” Davis says.

This fall, Davis, who has mentored many young people in painting the city’s unique murals, is offering a course that will take participants right from the sketching phase to creating a finished painting.

Davis is offering the course at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre.

The course will cover the creative thought process; preparation of painting surfaces; basic colour theory; painting techniques and brush work; light and shadow; two-dimensional and three-dimensional subject development.

There will be two time options: Wednesdays from Oct. 19 to Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening; or Saturdays, Oct. 22 to Dec. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The fee is $200 for people taking classes twice a week and $120 for people taking classes once a week.

There is a 20 per cent discount for Cariboo Art Society members.

Davis will also be offering a two-hour portrait drawing session on Nov. 15  for a fee of $30.

People can register by Oct. 15 with the Cariboo Art Society by calling Cat at 250-296-3670, Adele at 250-398-0300 or Yvette at 250-989-4241.
