A Canada Day celebration in Williams Lake will be hosted by the city on Saturday, July 1, beginning at 2 p.m. in Kiwanis Park.
In A Chord DJ David McFadden will be spinning some tunes, there will be cake pops, cotton candy, Cody’s bannock, bouncy castles, fun games, Canada flag-themed giveaways and a mechanical bull – all for free.
“We have big yard games such as JENGA, Connect Four, corn hole, ladder ball, and of course the spray park will be open,” said Kaitlyn Atkinson, manager of recreation and leisure.
The Williams Lake Fire Department and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue (CCSAR) will be on site to share some information and CCSAR is providing first aid.
“They really love to participate, which is also nice,” Atkinson said of emergency services participation.
Mayor Surinderpal Rathor will be giving a speech as well as Cariboo Regional District chair Margo Wagner, Cariboo Prince George MP Todd Doherty and as well as a representative from Williams Lake First Nation
“We know it is a busy day but we hope people can come down and celebrate Canada’s 156th birthday and have fun,” said city events and marketing coordinator Greg Sabatino, noting the city received a Heritage Canada to host the celebration.
“The city and staff are grateful the federal government supports the event.”
Atkinson will be attending and MC the event and is hoping the later time will work for families who may be going to the parade and street party.
“We will start after the street party ends and go until 5 p.m.”
