Parents and children worried about the postal strike cutting off communications with Santa and his elves in the North Pole can rest easy.
In Williams Lake, letters to Santa are still getting through, even if Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have not yet reached an agreement as the strike goes into week four.
Thanks to the magic of the holidays and some very helpful elves among the post office staff, volunteers are making sure those holiday messages make it to their destination and are answered.
It is an annual tradition postal workers help out with, largely on their own time, they explained, but one near and dear to their hearts.
"The kids are absolutely adorable," said Tanya Paré, a striking postal worker and union representative.
Parents and children can drop their letters off at the picket lines at the post office in downtown Williams Lake between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, and answers from Santa will be delivered to schools, as long as the child's school is included with the letter. The main Canada Post office in Williams Lake is located at 48 Second Avenue South.
Paré said schools were also invited to collect letters from students and bring them to the postal workers, who will ensure the letters get to Santa.
