Tension is mounting as local schools organize the book collection for the Bright Red Bookshelf April children’s book drive.

Each school has a large thermometer poster to track the number of books donated.

The school with the most books collected at the end of the book drive will win a prize for the whole school. Pam Hedley-Smith is co-ordinating publicity and monitoring progress at the schools.

She reports that enthusiasm is high for this Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy project.

Principals have put notice of the book drive in school newsletters and some PAC groups are helping.

Chilcotin Road elementary is in the lead with 337 books collected and more promised as word spreads among parents.

Kwaleen Elementary School has a total of 169 books donated.

Mountview elementary uses a train to promote the book drive and has 113 books. Mountview also ran a separate book drive before Christmas and collected 10 boxes of books for the Bright Red Bookshelves.

Cataline elementary and Nesika elementary schools are having book swaps and will donate books afterwords.

We appreciate the time and effort of these schools in promoting the April book drive.

Donate gently used children’s books at your local elementary school and help the school push up the numbers on the book drive thermometer.
