Chief Sellars to read Hockey with Dad at free Williams Lake literacy event

Willie Sellars will read his book, Hockey with Dad, at the Longhouse Feb. 15

Bookworms and winter sports lovers can unite at a free literacy event hosted by the Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy.

Taking place on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., children and families can gather at the Longhouse at the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds and listen to Chief Willie Sellars read his book called Hockey with Dad.

Family literacy coordinator Tara Flanagan put the event together with hopes of it being a fun, big community event, she said.

“We have such great local authors in our community and I thought it would be a fun family literacy event.”

Crafting, games and snacks will be available for families to enjoy and participate in.

Flanagan thought Sellars’ book would be great to read during winter as kids are out and about skating and playing hockey, whether indoors or outdoors on the ice rink. Future authors will be chosen for other literacy events as well, Flanagan noted.
