Lakecity residents can watch artists in action Saturday, June 3 as they create chalk art on the cement floor of Spirit Square.
About 30 people have signed up to take part in the free chalk art workshop with multi-media artist Miss White Spider, that is offered with support from Kit and Kaboodle, says Kate Lines executive director with the Downtown Williams Lake Business Improvement Area Association.
The workshop, which is full, runs from 10 a.m. until noon for those wishing to watch the event.
She says another free chalk art workshop will take place on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to noon which isn’t yet full.
Pre-registration for the chalk art workshops is required by e-mailing the BIA at info@downtownwilliamslake.com or calling Lines at 250-398-5717
The chalk art workshops lead up to the 4 Directions Festival on Canada Day, Saturday July 1, when there will be a free and open Chalk Art Festival taking place in Spirit Square from noon to 9 p.m.
Lines says the BIA plans to host an annual chalk art festival in downtown Williams Lake that will draw visitors and tourists to the city.
“Downtown Williams Lake dreams of becoming a Chalk Arts Hub with an annual Chalk Art Festival to celebrate our local and regional artists and to draw new artists to our community,” Lines says.
“As part of our huge/massive/amazing upcoming 4 Directions Festival, the Chalk Art Festival is sure to be an exciting day of Colourful Cariboo Culture Downtown!”
