Cariboo Festival 2016 wraps up first week

The first week of the 2016 Cariboo Festival featured the band/instrumental and speech arts sections of competition April 12-15.

The first week of the 2016 Cariboo Festival featured the band/instrumental and speech arts sections of competition April 12-15.

Festival photographer Betty Dryden said the performances were enjoyable to watch and adjudicators provided excellent feedback to the participants.

Calvin Dyck of Abbotsford adjudicated the band and instrumental sections while Catherine McCarthy of Prince George adjudicated the speech arts sections.

The festival continues this week with the choral and vocal sections of competition adjudicated by Melanie Nicol taking place April 18 to 20 at the Evangelical Free Church on 11th Avenue.

This section includes folk, contemporary, minstrel songs, Christian songs, musical theatre, as well as adult and children’s choirs.

Monday evening featured a presentation of three adult choirs and three children’s choirs.

The final week of the festival features the piano competitions taking place April 21 to 23 at Calvary Church on Carson Drive.

Talented local pianists will perform classical, Canadian, modern, rock, jazz and blues compositions.  The piano adjudicator for these events is Cynthia Goddard.

Admission to festival events is by donation.

A special evening of piano ensembles and a senior piano competition will be held on April 21 at Calvary Tabernacle Church on Carson Drive starting at 7 p.m.

The Honours Concert takes place on Saturday, April 30 at Cariboo Bethel Church starting  at 7 p.m.
