Cadets celebrate 52 years with annual review

Thirteen sea cadets from the 2020 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Chilcotin celebrated the end of their 52nd training year in Williams Lake on May 27.

They also marked the Sea Cadet Centennial with a parade at Elks Hall, commanded by Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Kaitlin Lebrun.

The reviewing officer for the parade was RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Williams Lake Detachment of the Williams Lake RCMP Detachment.

During the parade, cadets demonstrated their knowledge of drill and leadership, with several cadets receiving prestigious awards including:

CPO2 Cosmo Brunsch-Rendek: Legion Medal of Excellence

CPO2 Dale VanKuipers: Lord Strathcona Medal

CPO2 Cosmo Brunsch-Rendek: Senior Marksmanship Award

AB James Tattrie: Junior Marksmanship Award

CPO2 Dale VanKuipers: Sue Prestwich Memorial Sea Cadet

MS Cody Tetu: Perfect Attendance

CPO2 Dale VanKuipers: Perfect Attendance

PO2: Albert Brown: Coxswain’s Pride Award

CPO2 Jacob Bazinet: Sea Cadet Centennial Coin

CPO2 Dale VanKuipers, PO1 Britten Allery, and PO2 Zoey Bailey received the Sea Cadet Service Medal for acheiving four continuous years of service in the cadet program. CPO1 Kaitlin Lebrun and CP02 Jacob Bazinet received their six year bar to add to their medals.

Navy leage treasurer Bob Harker received the Commanding Officer’s Achievement Award for his personal dedication, commitment and promotion of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet goals.

This is the end of the training year for sea cadets in Williams Lake, but many cadets will attend summer training centres in B.C. and across Canada.
