The Big Lake Community Association’s annual general meeting was held March 31 with many people in attendance.

Highlights of the evening included honouring Karl Schiemann for two awards:  a Volunteer Service Award in recognition of 19 years of volunteer service in the community, and an Appreciation Award in recognition of 14 years of dedicated service to Big Lake Fire/Rescue.

A special presentation of the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal was made to both Ray and Sharon Bruneski for 20 years of service with the Big Lake Volunteer Fire/Rescue.

An Exemplary Service Award was presented to retiring president Jack Darney for eight years of service as president of the Big Lake Community Association, and a special thanks was given to retiring secretary Graham Kelsey for 14 years of service with the association.

Darney thanked the many individuals for the success of this year’s activities, one of which was the most successful fish derby ever held in the community.

The meeting concluded with the nominating and electing of this year’s board, which includes a new president, treasurer and secretary.

The executive includes president Bee Hooker, vice-president Marianne Woods, past president Jack Darney, secretary Jenny Howell, treasurer Kelly Burnham, and directors Peggy Gleason, Jill Kurki, Elke Cameron, Shawn Place, Gabby Hadden, Mike Shannon, Christine Dyment, and Joel Bruneski.
