BGC Williams Lake is preparing for their 22nd annual Street Party extravaganza, including everyone's favourite, the massive water fight with first responders.
The event will take place Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the water fight at 7 p.m.
For 2024, more of the block will be closed off for the safety of participants, so most of Fourth Avenue from Oliver Street to Yorston Street will be closed to vehicle traffic during the event.
Many non profit and community organizations will have tables or activities, and there will be food trucks and local vendors, as well as bouncy castles.
The event always draws a crowd, with many young people eagerly anticipating the water fight with first responders, and this year Williams Lake Fire Department, RCMP, Sherriffs, BC Emergency Health Services, and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue have all said they will take part if emergency calls allow.
"I just really love the community coming together," said Krista Harvey, BCG Williams Lake Club manager, who helps put the vent together.
The organizers invite participants and attendees to bring donations for the youth food bank as well, to support youth in need.
Harvey said the club is also already looking towards Halloween, and their annual haunted house event, another community favourite.
Anyone looking to help with Halloween fun at the haunted house can come to their first meeting Sept 3 at 5 p.m. at the BGC Williams Lake clubhouse at 17 Fourth Avenue South, in Williams Lake.
