The 2012 Williams Lake Stampede dinner dance and auction is coming up Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Elks Hall.

There will be dancing to Clancy Wright and The Silverados.

Cocktails are at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m., the auction is at 7 p.m. and dancing starts at 9 p.m.

Horsefly resident Gloria Antypowich will sign copies of her first book Hearts at Risk this Friday, Feb. 10 at Save-On Foods from 1 to 4 p.m.

Although she has been involved in farming and ranching most of her life, Antypowich says her cowboy romance novel is in no way a reflection of her own life experiences.

“It’s not my story, it’s totally fiction,” Gloria says.

Talk on

Dr. Rob Higgins was the first to identify the European fire ant Myrmica Rubra in the Williams Lake area.

The ant was most likely introduced on landscape plants.

In a free public talk at the Scout Island Nature Centre, Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Higgins will discuss how fire ants have migrated, and the larger issues of invasive species in the global picture.

Management strategies will be considered, particularly in the context of urban neighbourhoods. All are welcome.

The Daybreak Rotary Club is hosting its 21st annual Giant Used Book Sale in the upper level of Boitanio Mall Feb. 17 to 25.

Donations are gratefully appreciated and can be dropped off at collection bins located at Safeway, Save-on-Foods, Canadian Tire, Boitanio Mall main entrance and at the 150 Mile House Centre.

Bev Sellars

 

 

 

Xat’sull Chief Bev Sellars will give a presentation on First Nations history and contributions to Canadian society on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson Rivers University Gathering Place.

Among her credentials Sellars holds a history and political science degree from the University of Victoria and a law degree from the University of British Columbia.

The presentation is part of Heritage Week events taking place in the lakecity Feb. 20 to 26.

Women will make drop earrings at the monthly women’s get together at the Women’s Contact Society meeting room on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The society centre is located on First Avenue above Caribou Ski.
